Quantum computing offers the power to solve complex problems that classical computers cannot tackle. However, this power also threatens the very foundation of current encryption methods. Experts warn that if we don't act now, the arrival of quantum computing could result in a digital apocalypse, where sensitive information, from financial data to national security secrets, becomes vulnerable.
Dr. Michele Mosca, a quantum computing and cryptography expert, puts it bluntly: "Waiting until quantum computers are a reality before transitioning to quantum-safe systems is a risk we cannot afford." Dr. Scott Totzke, CEO of Isara Corporation, emphasizes that transitioning to post-quantum cryptography requires a comprehensive overhaul of existing infrastructures, not just new algorithms. Dr. Léo Ducas from CWI adds, "Post-quantum cryptography is not just a mathematical challenge; it’s an engineering challenge, too." This massive shift requires immediate, coordinated efforts between cybersecurity and quantum experts to safeguard our digital future.
To tackle these looming threats, the Cybersecurity Community Network (CCN) is partnering with Louise Turner and the Quantum Algorithms Institute (QAI). This collaboration is a critical step towards building a quantum-safe future. Combining QAI’s community and expertise with CCN’s community and reach, we aim to fortify defenses against future quantum attacks.
